RML Manokan Haus started its humble beginning in 1986, when Mr. Edward Uytiepo, a native of Negros Occidental created the JM Manokan located at Rizal St. Roxas City. It was a small kitchenette with 10 tables which Chicken Inasal was their specialty menu. The business was managed by his cousin, Mr. Romeo Buncalan which later on became an owner of the said Manokan Haus. When the family Uytiepo decided to leave Roxas City and permanently settle in Bacolod City for business purposes, Mr Buncalan took over the management of the Manokan Haus. Since, he was interested with the business, he bought it by paying a portion of a total investment but in installment basis.
However, during 1989, the JM Manokan was changed to B’s Manokan Haus where B stands for Buncalan, last name of Mr. Romeo Buncalan. Despite some changes were being made in the restaurant, Chicken Inasal was still their specialty menu.
Due to inadequate capital for the operation of the business, Mr. Buncalan forced to loan P20, 000.00 in order to maximize its product and services for the costumer. In order to minimize cost, he employed his wife, 3 sins and daughter instead of hiring somebody for waiter, cooking, and cashiering. There was no supplier at that time, hence, he bought Chicken for the market (Bagong Lipunan) and when the Chicken is sold out, he immediately rushed again to the market to purchase. However, this practice became impractical to him after few years. Due to the demand of the costumer and expansion, he decided to get a supplier which is CAL’s but years after, he shifted to Swift.
Gradually, RML Manokan Haus has established a good name in terms of food industry not only in the city but to the entire province as well. Promotion has been made through radio, sponsorship in different events and donations People keep on patronizing their products because of its unique and delicious taste.
Due to inevitable success of the business, subsequent expansion has been made not only to accommodate costumer from different towns of Capiz but to other neighboring provinces. In 1996, Mr. Buncalan registered the business to the DTIO under R & L Manokan Haus. Due to clerical error made in the record of the DTI, instead of R & L, the certificate was named RML Manokan Haus. In 1998, Bay bay branch was open under the management and ownership of his son, Mr. John Peter Buncalan who worked in a bank at that time. Although, it was in the form of franchise, yet there was no payment being made during the transfer of the ownership. After four (4) years of operation, he decided to put up another branch at Kalibo Aklan. It was later in 2002 when this plan has been realized and been given to his another son, Mr. Ramel Buncalan, who was then an Electrical Engineer. The first branch located at Toting Reyes then followed by another branch located at Mabini Street where until still in operation. Then in 2005, another branch was opened at Legaspi St., Roxas City and it was given to his third son, Mr. Ronnie Buncalan who was a sales supervisor of Coca Cola Company.
Aside from Chicken Inasal, they also added some products like, Pork Barbeque and Pork Liempo and some sea foods product.
The business is open 6 days a week, from Monday to Saturday and closed during Sunday and sometimes on Holiday. The months from October up to December are the peak months for the business it is due to the various activities being held on these months like Sinadya sa Halaran, October feast Christmas, etc. Also, in some occasions they accept catering, orders and delivery.
Presently, there are 12 regular employees each branch employed in the business with complete statutory benefits like SSS, Philhealth, etc.
RML Manokan Haus is tested for many years. The influx of competitors and economic crisis affect the sales of the business however, despite the circumstances, RML stood still and continue to serve the Capizenos of its famed Chicken Inasal.
